Glass ceilings are meant to be broken. Just ask SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Bimsani Jasinghaarachchi. The National Police Commission (NPC) of Sri Lanka has approved their first promotion of a female police officer as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). She was chosen for this position because of her experience and contribution from a pool of 9 SSP (Senior Superintendents of Police).

Prior to this nomination, SSP Bimsani Jasinghaarachchi was appointed in the Child and Women Bureau of the Department. She had joined the Police service in 1997 as a Police Inspector and had risen through the ranks to a SSP in 2017.

SSP Premila Dhiwakara was the first female officer to hold a high post of SSP before SSP Bimsani. But she had retired as a SSP. This promotion of SSP Bimsani is truly inspirational. Here’s to bold women like SSP Bimsani; may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.
